For The Greener Good

Sustainable Scale

Why It's Important

Companies are currently under heavy scrutiny as a result of organizations and individuals becoming more aware of the sustainable movement and the powerful effects it has on the well-being of our environment. As a means to shed light or surface lies on a company’s sustainable and green efforts we have developed a scale/rating system designed to assist in the detection of “friend or foe” businesses. While some companies are at a natural disadvantage, such as oil companies, we will not hold their current environmental status against them but weigh it against how large of an effort they are making to turn their business model around.
Below is a representation of the essential elements used to determine if a business is sustainable and how to properly examine and question their current practice. The scale is broken down into five elements: transparency, social impact, diversity, greenwashing and environmental impact.

Stories Of Change

As companies progress and make their way to a greener business model, we would like them to share their stories with us...

Does It All Add Up

Picture
Transparency
  • Is information (such as carbon emissions and budget allocation) readily available and easy to understand?
Social impact
  • Does the company/brand have an established social campaign to improve the society and community?
  • Is the company involved in community service and/or charities?
  • Would you say the company/brand improves social awareness and involvement?
Diversity
  • Does the company have diversified work force and leadership?
Greenwashing
  • Does the company have a genuine green message?
  • Are claims exaggerated or false in relation to sustainable impact?
  • Does the company spend more on advertising their green message than on working for it?
  • Would you say the company takes away or builds to the sustainable movement?
Environmental impact
  • In relation to companies within their industry, does the company have a good ratio of money earned/total Co2 Emissions?
  • Does the company have any major impact on deforestation, pollution, water waste etc?
